An elevated perch in the flatlands of Illinois.

In addition to remodeling their upstairs master bedroom, these clients also wanted to create an exterior balcony to survey the landscape.  The existing window was cut to the floor, and sliding glass doors were installed.  Low maintenance was paramount, so recycled plastic Trex composite decking was installed over a powder coated steel frame.  The guardrail is custom fabricated stainless steel with cable railing to maximize the transparency of the view.

The crumbling lower patio was removed and replaced with a curving plateau to showcase the lush gardening on the ground level.
